A rush of colour

July 6, 2016 by Ambika No Comments

I recently happened to view this ad on a leading social site of a social experiment cum brand building advertisement on glasses that can make a colour blind person experience colour. I truly know for sure, colour would have blown their minds off. That set me thinking what is it about colours that give an added dimension to shapes and structures. The depth of a field, the rush of emotions and vibes of energy we

About Me

Welcome to Zingmyway. I am Ambika, an author, content producer, travel addict originally from vibrant India now living in Australia.

I have been a traveller since I was a baby, thanks to my parents who loved to see the world. Over three decades of travelling I have picked up enough knowledge to actually plan long and complex holidays at a moments notice.

This is my blog, where I post on all my trips, tips on what to take with you, sometimes even fashion tips, stories of places, and generally how I see the world through my eyes.

If you want to stop by to say ‘Hi’ or know more about how to Zingmyway then follow me and I hope to meet you in one of my social media accounts soon!

Borobudur- Indonesia’s ode to Buddhism

Posted: November 26, 2018

As I stood atop this great structure, I was transported to an era in time when showcasing faith had a different connotation. The sun rose, from between the volcanic mountains that surround Kedu Valley in Central Java, illuminating the 72 stupas that make up this nine tiered roofless pyramid, called Borobudur. Seeds of faith and it’s germination- History of  Great place (Boro) of Buddha (budur) Borobudur in central Java, is the largest Mahayana Buddhist complex

Udaipur- A long weekend in Rajasthan

Posted: July 19, 2018

India is a land of loads of stories, culture and of course long weekends. Thanks to our multi cultural society we have at least 2 long weekends apart from the usual National days, Diwali, Eid and New Year holidays. While it is not always possible to plan in advance a little help and a bit of route tweaking can save you some bucks. If you are like us and tend to plan trips on a

Namakkal- A day trip to an unexplored region of Tamil Nadu

Posted: July 16, 2018

From the turn of the last millennium to the Middle Ages to the 21st century Namakkal has featured in many lost texts of history. Today’s urban avatar of the city lies south of Salem. A major agricultural region in the fertile lands of the Kaveri belt, today the city is famous for Tapioca, eggs and trucks. Confused?  The Namakkal region is one of India’s highest producers of eggs. Namakkal’s economy is further supported by the

New Zealand- #Mustdos of the South Island

Posted: June 11, 2018

Kia Ora! My trip to New Zealand was a blast; literally and figuratively, both. Read on if you want to know what South Island offers and why is it aptly called the adventure sports capital. New Zealand perhaps is one of those countries where you have distinct topography and cultural variations when it comes to the north versus south. Neither of the island is the ‘better one’. They are both equally grand, unique and extremely remarkable.

I created this ☝🏼 Death in Colaba Bay, my de I created this ☝🏼

Death in Colaba Bay, my debut novel, is an ode to the city of Bombay (Mumbai as we know it now).

But then, my story takes place when it was still called Bombay and trams were pulled by animals.

Let me take you to 19th century Bombay, to solve a crime in the city, where dreams are realised and nightmares are lived.

Sydney is known for its beautiful and deep harbour Sydney is known for its beautiful and deep harbour. However, nestled in the heart of southern end of #bluemountains is a water body 4 times larger than the harbour. One of Sydney’s life systems and best kept secret, Warragamba Dam.
Built as part of nation building after the #ww2 men and women from around the world came to build one of the world’s biggest dams. It took 12 years to build this massive structure with turbines making the long journey from #southhampton to #sydney...
Lake Burragorang formed by the dam holds and supplies water to all us Sydneysiders and is a stunning sight to behold (pics 1-2).
The drought since 2013 led to the alarmingly low water levels and the dam usually known to flood had reached the end of its tether by the summer of 2020.
Of course we have been blessed with rains now and the dam and the lake are back to their shimmering capacity.
An hours drive south west of Sydney, the #warragamba area has an interesting history, heritage and beautiful lookouts... a perfect Saturday out and about knowing more about Sydney and surrounds....

Living in Sydney has it’s perks. Weekend #getaw Living in Sydney has it’s perks. Weekend #getaway options are many, especially if not on a full #lockdown ...
We have visited Helensburgh in the #illawarra on numerous occasions but never imagined waterfalls and steep treks were right there, actually just behind the #helensburghtemple ...
Kelly’s creek flows in to the Hacking River that eventually flows out at #stanwelltops (last pic). This wooded area was an absolute delight.
A grade 3 trek, with no signs, that we attempted on a rainy cold afternoon. We did halfway down the slippery slope and decided to return as the weather seemed to be too unpredictable. Of course by the time we got back up, it was sunny 😎
Whatta view of the cerulean waters of #pacificocean at #stanwellpark it offered.
About 60km south of Sydney this was a recent and interesting find for those days when you want to stretch your legs but fear the company of one too many at the local park.

Famous for being the whitest beach in Australia, J Famous for being the whitest beach in Australia, Jervis Bay is all about crystal clear turquoise waters and great marine biodiversity.
The Shoalhaven-Jervis Bay region spreads along the south central coast of #nsw and is well know for its sweeping beaches and emerald forests. Pronounced Jer-vis or Jar-vis, is still a confusion, nonetheless the #jervisbay region with its popular beaches and secret coves are a tourist paradise.
A plethora of sea life makes this a region to view whales, dolphins, manta rays even the every attractive and sometimes fatal jellyfish.
An important part of the maritime history of Australia and Pacific, the headlands of the area are dotted with robust and crumbling lighthouses and villages that supported the maritime trade.
Further south is Lake Conjola, a lake created by a breach in the sandbar. One of the best places to meet our resident wildlife star, the kangaroo. The roos live here year long, are backyard visitors and sometimes even behave like stray cats or dogs. #lakeconjola has some of the best night sky views in the Southern Hemisphere and winter is ideal to visit if spotting constellations is your thing.
Both places are a few hours drive from Sydney and merit a couple of days to explore. Especially now as the region is recovering from tough times. Best done as a long weekend getaway, there’s enough stuff to keep everyone from 6-60 happy.

The Glowworm Tunnel, as the name suggests, is a di The Glowworm Tunnel, as the name suggests, is a disused railway tunnel between Lithgow and Newnes in the Wolgan Valley in the Blue Mountains of #nsw
Built by the Commonwealth Oil Corporation at the turn of the previous century, it is today notable for its resident glow-worms and the 300 million year old warm fern forests that surround it.
Nestled in the heart of the #wolleminationalpark the tunnel was built as part of connecting Newnes, the source of the oil, to #lithgow on the main railway line. Far from civilisation is one way to describe this place, as literally people seemed to have deserted the area in the 1940s thus leading to nature reclaiming it back.
The track from the upper car park is over 7 km long and includes many steep sections while the 2km track from the lower car park is a more doable trek for those who aren’t seasoned enough.
About 200 kms from #sydney this is easily a day trip. However, unlike us don’t forget that most of the last one hour was spent off roading and covered a measly distance.
Winter is a preferred time to visit as the caves glow even in the afternoon and the trek is a cool and damp one.
Exploring the #backyard is always fun and you never know what gems you may find. This one was worth the bumpy ride.

Canals, cobbled streets, palaces and Vikings make Canals, cobbled streets, palaces and Vikings make for a good story- the tale of Copenhagen.
One of the popular cities of #scandanavia Copenhagen has been an important #viking trade post since 10CE and eventually the capital of Denmark in the 1400’s. The city elevated itself to be the #nordic capital during the #rennaissance and continues to be a powerful ally in the #European political and economic scene.
A layered city, #copenhagen or #kobenhavn as the locals call it has everything from grand palaces, Tivoli gardens-the second oldest amusement park in the world, the #mermaid to a world renowned brewery in #carlsberg.
Our spring sojourn to #denmark started with a boat ride on the famous canals of the city. A walk along Christianshavn Canal in the centre of the neighborhood, of the same name is a must. Did you know a self governing micro town called #freetownchristiania lends more charm and character to this bohemian neighbourhood?
The Viking connection is strong too. With large stone walled castles or keeps that dot the coastline, preserving and building on the legacy of the mighty warriors and expert navigators. Large Viking boats take on the strong winds and ice cold waters of the arctic.
Since JC Jacobsen decided to marry science to the art of making beer, Carlsberg was born. Not just one of the most popular and world renowned breweries of the world, the Carlsberg brewery also includes the lab that was set up in 1875 to research hops and yeast, both essential ingredients to make high quality beer. Located south of the inner city, on prime real estate, the brewery is a must visit if in #copenhagen🇩🇰
There’s a lot more than this post (first of many more to come) to explore in this magnificent part of the world. After all we haven’t yet visited (here on my ig) the stunning castles, interesting structures or museums that make #denmarktravel an adventure .
